Energy Efficiency Measures

Loft Insulation

Working Together

What Is loft insulation?

Loft insulation is one of the most cost-effective and simple energy measures to install. Usually, insulation is fitted between the joists/ceiling supports in your roof space and then it is laid across the joists to maximise heat retention.

What to Expect

We would look to increase/add loft insulation to a depth of 400mm. If you have any active pipework and tanks in your roof space we’ll insulate those as well to prevent them freezing in the winter.

We’ll also make sure your loft hatch is insulated and sealed so draughts can’t circulate in your property. We won’t install loft ladders or install boarded areas or new loft hatches. If you have a current storage area you will be advised at survey stage how much of this can be preserved. Your quote will give clear details on what is included and what is excluded.

Your loft space will need to be clear of belongings and storage items for us to carry out the works. It is important that the insulation is not flattened or disrupted following works completed as this will affect how well the insulation manages heat trying to escape.

Improving your loft insulation is usually considered part of a package of measures. Should you require loft insulation in isolation, it may not meet scheme criteria and therefore could be subject to a charge.

Benefits of having loft insulation

  • Lower energy usage – insulation helps prevent heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, leading to lower heating and cooling costs

  • Increased comfort – insulation creates a more comfortable living environment by maintaining consistent temperatures, reducing drafts, and minimising temperature fluctuation

  • Improved air quality – insulation can help seal air leaks and prevent the entry of pollutants, allergens, and dust, leading to better indoor air quality.

  • Moisture control – insulation can help reduce condensation and damp thus reducing the risk of mould growth
  • Healthier living environment – by improving air quality and controlling moisture, insulation can contribute to a healthier living environment

  • Increased property value – homes with high levels insulation are often more attractive to buyers and can have higher resale value
