Room-in-roof insulation is designed for homes where the loft has been converted into a living space, or where there are sloping ceilings and walls directly under the roof. Instead of insulating only the loft floor, insulation is added to the sloping parts of the roof, vertical walls, dormers and other exposed areas so the room can keep hold of heat more effectively.
This can help make the space warmer in winter, more comfortable to use throughout the year and less likely to overheat in hotter weather. The Energy Saving Trust estimates an uninsulated home can lose around 25% of its heat through the roof, so improving insulation in these areas can make a noticeable difference to comfort and energy efficiency.
